Accommodations are supports and services provided to help a student access the general education curriculum and validly demonstrate learning. The SAC Director follows these steps to create a CAP to meet the needs of your student:
Recommendations from neuro-psychological evaluation are reviewed
Teacher input is gathered concerning student’s needs in the classroom
Allowable minor accommodations are determined based on the child’s unique individual needs to access grade level curriculum, rather than disability.
A CAP (accommodations meeting) is held annually to discuss the student’s strengths, challenges, and recommended accommodations.
All the student’s teachers receive the CAP to implement.
Accommodations will be monitored throughout the school year.
The CAP is effective for one year. Evidence backed changes may be implemented throughout the year as the need arises.
STCS Least Restrictive Environment Policy
Least restrictive environment (LRE) is an important part of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), the U.S. special education law. LRE applies to a student’s entire education program, including services.
Least restrictive environment (LRE) means students who receive accommodations should be in the same classrooms as other students as much as possible.
